Liftoff
This would make a unique holiday gift for the space buff.
Here are a couple of DVDs that are loaded with all sorts if vintage rocket launch/abort footage, some with audio commentary. I’m thinking that this would make a nifty birthday gift for anyone that likes the historic side of space exploration. Better yet, buy one and donate it to your local library!

Left In The Box
Meanwhile, my Christmas gift to them of a stereo sits in a box in their house, and they've yet to say anything about it in the four months they've had it. I thought I was actually getting them something they could use, as their old stereo dates back to the stone age. I know they both listen to music, and they have old records and new CDs that could be played (it's a combo record player/AM-FM tuner/CD player).

Handmade Gifts
This blogger was touched by handmade art made by a friend. If you can write, paint, knit or whatever, you can make a memorable holidy gift for a friend.
JB gave me a belated birthday gift which moved my heart to tears. A piece of art she made herself, including a hand written copy of prose by "Judy Chicago" with a beautiful heart image in the center. So stunningly beautiful, especially in the clarity of her view of me it displays. She also gave me $40 to go towards my robes fund. I am looking for lay robes to wear when I am at the center.

Current Trends in Wedding Gifts
If you need to buy a wedding gift, here's what everyone else is getting.
Click through for the other four. Here are the top five wedding gifts at this time:
1. Money – Yes it’s true; while it may seem impersonal or uncreative, money is my number one recommended wedding gift. Most young couples are saving for something big – a house, a car, a piece of furniture, or are still paying back their student loans. Money may also help them have an extra-special honeymoon or let them order that extra photo for their album. While it’s rude for a couple to ask for money, it is never rude to give cash. If you still want to give a personal wedding gift, combine the two: attach a check to a beautiful...

Framing The Shrine
The good thing about birthday gifts is that you don't have to pay for them.
I brought The Shrine in to be framed this weekend. This is actually the first time that I am picking out my own framing. In the past my dad took care of it for me as a birthday gift or an xmas gift. The good part is that it meant I didn't have to pay for it... but the bad part was that it was all to his taste and not to mine.

Mangosteen In Your Gift Basket
Exotic or hard-to-find foods always make a great holiday gift.
Occasionally gift companies will ship frozen mangosteen in for use in exotic gift baskets. These companies charge a premium price for the fruit. It is rumored that the famous Harrods department store in England brought mangosteen in and charged the equivalent of several US dollars for each piece of fruit.

RIP Shuffle!
A lost iPod Shuffle might be someone else's christmas present ... but now I know what to get this blogger for a holiday gift or birthday gift.
I was using it on Sat in the car while driving around to pick everyone up for dboat. I remember putting it in my pants pocket and that's the last I ever saw of it. I figure since we had to change pretty often on Sat (from swim trunks to running pants) that it probably fell out and I didn't notice. Damn, I originally got the Shuffle because it's so lightweight and small and now it looks like those very same advantages have lead...

Bodega Norton Privada 2003
A wine gift recommendation, or look for other great wines reviewed online.
Wine is a great holiday gift.A Bordeaux style with an Argentine twist blend of Malbec with equal amounts of Cab and Merlot. Grown on 50 to 80 year old estate vines this is a huge wine full of concentrated fruit, lovely velvet mouthfeel, and unbelievably well integrated tannins for a wine in the under $20 category. I will definitely be putting a few cases of this away in the cellar... this beauty is has the structure and depth of character to be enjoyed over the next 10 years.

History of Valentine's Day
But don't feel like St. Valentine's Day is the only time for greeting cards!
Valentine thus become a Patron Saint, and spiritual overseer of an annual festival. The festival involved young Romans offering women they admired, and wished to court, handwritten greetings of affection on February 14. The greeting cards acquired St.Valentine's name.

Killer Clown Cocoon
In itself, this cocoon with a scary face protruding from it is pretty weird. But we're more interested in the fact that it's a prop from a movie called Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Now that's a film we want to see... "Props from this movie are next to impossible to find," says seller 'killerklowncrazy', and something tells us they're probably not kidding. An ideal christmas gift for... well, we're not sure who, but we're...

Greeting Card Gimmicks
I love these greeting cards, too.
When buying greeting cards, I tend toward the high-tech gimmicks: The buzzers or snide quips that blare when the card opens, or, better yet, the pop-outs that do everything but hit you in the face with a pie.

Creating Greeting Cards For Special Occasions
When you need a gift card for that holiday gift or special occasion, how cool to make a unique card from a picture on your computer.
A great advantage of transferring images to a computer is the use of software to edit and enhance your images. You can adjust tones and even add special effects and characters. Some allow you to create and organize photo albums. On special occasions and holidays, you can create greeting cards using stored photos. What you can do is only limited by your creativity.

Edible Art
Special treat for special occasions and holiday gifts. Can't go wrong.
This beautiful work of edible art was created by the wife of one of my son's co-workers. She has her own cake decorating business and does quite well. She has made every cake for my grandson's birthdays and several for other special occasions. I've seen a lot of special-occasion cakes but this woman really is an artist with the frosting, as well as with the added thematic touches of chocolate coins and candy beads. And, from the response of the 15 kids and 20 adults at the party, the cake inside the frosting was pretty...

Weddings Are Not For Revenge
now, with the second cousin getting married, it’s finally a chance for sweet retribution! sure, you’re registered likewise at the normal places, but who says i need to buy you what you want? maybe a wifi ambient bunny or a hello kitty camcorder is what you didn’t know you really needed? or even better, how about true images, the bible for teen girls, when you need to talk about oral sex with your thirteen-year old daughter, but in a biblical context?
alas, after being there and seeing her so happy on her big day, as well as her being so touched that we attended, i realized that wedding days are not days to exact petty revenges for christian ceramic figurines.
enjoy your hand blender, second cousin and second cousin-in-law(-in-law?)!

Hanukkah Gifts
Always hard for me to know whether to give Hanukkah gifts, but this blogger likes getting them!
My in-laws got me a bag full of Hanukkah gifts! The ironic thing is that I'm not even celebrating Hanukkah this year, but we didn't tell them that. I think this is the first year in...oh, just about forever...that I haven't lit candles for eight nights. I do miss it, but I've been so distracted lately that I just didn't drag the menorah out in time. I am hoping to at least make some latkes from a mix - okay,
Anyway, though, her parents did get me some nice little presents. They got me a bunch of Hello Kitty-branded food, including chocolate dip biscuits, strawberry dip biscuits, Lips candy, and Dream Cakes (which look kind of like moon pies). They also gave me a mezuzah (I guess they didn't notice we already have one at our front door), some fruit-shaped marzipan treats, a whole box of fine marzipan with Jamaican rum, and a big bag of really cool gelt. The wrappers are sparkly, hologrammy, or whatever it is that makes that cool rainbow effect. It's so cool I don't want to eat them! I've never seen gelt wrappers like that before.

What Gifts Are Right for Easter?
As I wrote a few weeks ago, Easter is a tricky holiday for gift-giving.
Started off with an Easter egg hunt for the girls. They were so great finding the eggs. Still needed some coaching though. Then opened Easter gifts. I have a hard time with Easter turning into Christmas. The wife enjoys it and it makes memories. We do focus on Easter being about the resurrection of Christ and the girls know that. Then off to Crystal Springs golf course. I shot a 97. Not bad for seven weeks of rust. Had a few great drives and a couple of fantastic chips. One came within a few inches of the cup. There were deer on the fifth as usual....

Dating Tip
Here's a really simple tip for a special occasion: the first date:
So, you've met a girl and you've got to know something about her. Perhaps you met her in a bar, or maybe you've only talked via e-mail or over the phone. It doesn't really matter - the key is you've made contact.
Anyway, you've asked her to come on a date with you and she's accepted. Most likely, this will involve you going out for a meal (the #1 choice of most people today) - I'll leave it up to you as to whether you pay or you go Dutch. That's not important.
So, what's the big tip? Bring her a gift. That's it. Simple, and oh so effective. This one act will set you apart from about 95% of other guys.

Just proving the point that later is better than never, this blogger made good on a Christmas gift promise. With hand made gifts, the delay is much more understandable.

What the f87k does that mean?
When I was a kid, I only got to eat at Swensen’s on special occasions. Like when I got good results for my exams.

Can't Play Christmas Gift CD
This poor guy can't listen to his Christmas present because EMI, the publisher, added copy protection. Sadly, buying music is getting more complicated. If you want to give music, think about a gift certificate instead.
Thanks EMI for this nice protection, who made me lose 30 minutes. Not being a geek, and using some basical software, I can imagine that your protection only bothering regulare person without advanced knowledge in informatic: like grand parents trying to listen to their christmas gift on their nice computer (the one to play card during winter).

A romantic tale of anniversary gifts exchanged. Ah. Drama. Suspense. Romance.
I gave him his present on Saturday. It was on his amazon list. The Return of the King, Tree of Gondor watch by fossil (see image below). Very nice and it even came in an awesome leather, round case. Cordless phones are a practical birthday gift that will get used all the time. Just make sure you buy one that's compatible with anything the birthday boy or birthday girl already uses.
We recently got new cordless phones for the home, thanks to my best friend, Mark. It was a belated birthday gift. Now, we have a main unit with an answering machine (and call waiting!) plus two additional cordless units. The system works really great, so we love our newest technology addition to the family. Thanks, Mark!

Guy Buys Wedding Gifts As Only Guy Can
Wedding gifts generally get a little more personal than a gift certificate. But what does a guy have to lose?
So I’ve got two weddings this weekend and I haven’t bought anything for either yet. I think I’m going to do the BJC3 Special Wedding Gift and grab some gift-cards. I’m a guy, I can get away with that. As soon as I get a steady girlfriend then I’ll have to put more thought into things (or have her do it), but until then I can revel in my masculinity!

Text as Art
I just love the idea of text as art. I saw this post, and thought of all the ways I like to use text as design elements in my work.
What I mean is I love looking at words in the context of design. Ever since I was a young girl I would collect things that have word designs: greeting cards (such as this "Happy" card, brochures, postcards, magazine clippings, labels. Something about the curve of a J simply appeals to me. Words provide intricate details that just draws the eye.

Creating Greeting Cards Online
Here's a great idea. It will allow me to upload my personal images into greeting cards I create online. How do I find out when it's available?
A picture paints a thousand words. in this context, personalized greeting cards speaks more than words in a way as what the sender has created for the recipient(s) has special meaning to it. e-greeting cards are getting more and more popular not only for long distance relationship but also a way of expressing your love or care for your loved ones like family members, friends or someone special.
hence, me and my group mate, eugenia has come up with the idea of extending the greeting cards ideas by creating a site where users not only can send pre-designed or pre-made greeting cards but they can even upload their own creative images which might have meanings for the sender and the recipient(s). therefore with the drag-and-drop utility, creating your own personalized card is made much easier and you will have fun doing it. as soon as we have get our designs together and the layout of the website, hopefully the prototype will be available soon.

what to get a wine lover (besides a good bottle)
Blogger's wish lists provide an endless stream of gift ideas. I myself am a wine afficionado, so I was intrigued by this reference to the "Nat Deants" site.
What do you give the person who has everything? Well, even if he or she doesn’t have everything, provided they enjoy wine, Natalie Mac Lean from Nat Decants has put together a brilliant list of gift ideas for the wine lover. My favorite (in case my husband is reading this) is the Wine Atlas of the World.

Darn Yarn
What a nice gift exchange: knitter gets yarn from yarn collector as present, then turns yarn into present for collector.
Just last week, she decided to give me 15 balls of her GGH Scarlett in Chocolate and Blue! She claims it was a belated birthday gift/Christmas gift, etc., but it's a really generous gift and I could only accept it by either giving her some money for it or making her something. So, I'm making her some Estonian mittens. Yes, THOSE mittens. A fair trade, no?

Sometimes, the gift chooses the occasion
I was thinking about this while searching for gift ideas. Sometimes, the occasion doesn't determine the gift, the gift determines the occasion. This snippet from Un Sogno Bello brought that to mind.
I'm glad people put up accounts like that. They're just fun to read.My shirt and I...we were quite the topic of conversation. I loved it...but it definitely has to be reserved for special occasions, like cd release parties.

Credit Card Tips
Here are some tips if you give gift certificates in the form of a credit card.
Some credit card companies will take things one step further and even pay you to take their cards. These payments will take the form of gift certificates, bonus cash back, and/or bonus credits. There is one minor catch in that most companies will generally require that you use the cards at least once each to get those benefits. That's never a problem for me as I will use them once to get the benefits and then toss them into my "inactive" drawer.

Christmas Gift Idea
Hah! A fine Christmas gift for the thief in your family. If you're thinking about a new car for Christmas, time to start researching economy cars.
Oil prices reached a new high today. One expert says gas could be four bucks a gallon by December. That’ll take care of the Christmas gift problem. Give everyone a siphoning tube.

Drinking Your Holiday Dinner
For a unique Thanksgiving holiday festival, you can drink your entire dinner.
It was Beverage Tasting Weekend here at Albertellicious. First off, the Jones Soda Holiday Dinner pack, a birthday gift to Guy from Felicia (who demanded a full report of our tasting. This is for you, Felicia). This 5 pack consisted of the following soda flavors: Turkey and Gravy, Green Bean Casserole, Cranberry Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, and Fruitcake. Guy and his co-workers decided that the warm dishes should be tasted warm and cold, although this idea was abandoned halfway through as it tended to just dull the flavors (although in some cases dulling the flavors was a good thing). We tried ranking them on a 1 to 5 scale, comparing them to our entire soda experience. Here are our notes, so you can experience drinking a turkey dinner without actually having to do it:
