Happy Ever After? Not likely!

engagement ring diamond sapphire Were the fake diamonds a tip off that all was not well?

During the easter vacation of my fourth year at University, Y and I (Y was now back in his homeland of Cambridge, back with his parents and doing a part-time job whilst following his beloved Cambridge United home and ... well, mainly home because he WAS only working part-time) went on holiday to the Cotswolds and during a visit to Cheltenham he bought me the engagement ring. The sapphire was real apparently. The diamonds must have been lookalikes as`the receipt I later found when clearing out his things was only for £49.99. They say it's the thought that counts - is that still the case with an engagement ring?!
