Holiday Gifts

I just received an email from Torrid inviting me to “Improve my rear view” by purchasing Spanx foundation garments. I was wondering if I should be intrigued or insulted by this advertisement. It got me to thinking how the ladies here feel about the 2007 version of a girdle. Is it yay? Nay? Only on special occasions? I have a close friend who wore one to a party once and she couldn’t wait to get home and take it off all night.

My niece is getting married in a few weeks. She has already been down the aisle one time and already has a household. It’s a little more challenging to get a wedding gift for a second marriage since she pretty much has everything she needs.

My Great-Auntie Vera passed this week. She was 86! I’m sad that we lost her, but how cool is it that she lived to almost 90? Cool, indeed. Yay for long-lived family members. She was funny and sweet. She was a great cook, and sent us a family/church cookbook for a wedding gift. Then my grandma swiped it, then she gave it to my auntie and uncle. I finally tracked it down and got it back. HA! Ha to you, grandma! (Who is herself 87 this July.)

Couples can also offset the carbon emissions produced as a result of their nuptials by making contributions to an eco organization of their choice or requesting that guests do the same in lieu of a wedding gift.

Hubby, who is long past the bouquet stage, also served up a great example with the best Mother’s Day gift ever–a giant card he made featuring me as a cartoon superheroine ready to rule the world with my Siamese cats at my feet, our daugter in one hand, and my laptop in the other. To me it was as good as jewelry–with stones. But how many people have the time or the talent to create such valuable artistic offerings?
