Gifts That Count
Handmade greeting cardsHubby, who is long past the bouquet stage, also served up a great example with the best Mother’s Day gift ever–a giant card he made featuring me as a cartoon superheroine ready to rule the world with my Siamese cats at my feet, our daugter in one hand, and my laptop in the other. To me it was as good as jewelry–with stones. But how many people have the time or the talent to create such valuable artistic offerings?

Smilebox Greeting Cards
An online greeting card company goes Web 2.0Smilebox started out doing pretty basic greeting cards but used Flash to make them expressive. Since that time, they’ve gone more “Web 2.0″ and have added video, slideshows and scrapbook functionality.

Delivering Mass Smiles
That's a lot of greeting cards!
Before that, I purchased the greeting cards I would need to mail out to the bussers on the 50 page list I received via e-mail. I am very excited about the idea of mailing out cards to so many people — I’ll be delivering a mass smile, hopefully, to everyone who receives a card.

Get Well Soon
Handmade greeting cards are the best.
…and by the way, I’m doing OK following my procedure last week. Many thanks to Mimi for the lovely handmade card. I just love a hand made card! My daughter wants to steal the ribbon which adorns the front and turn it into a necklace but that’s not happening. Our proto-psalti also sent me a card with a lovely Victorian-esque picture on the cover. I wasn’t expecting anything from anyone so the cards were a nice surprise pick-me-up. I think my biggest mistake was believing the doc when she said I could be “back to normal in 24 to 48 hours.”

Greeting Cards From The 21st Century
This is such a good point. So many greeting cards seem like they were made in the paleolithic era.
Apparently, the people who write greeting cards have dads stuck in a 1956 holding pattern. You have your fishing cards, your golfing cards, your ‘working on the car’ cards, your ‘working with power tools’ cards, and your drinking beer cards. The only nods to the 21st century are computer-themed cards and fart-related cards. (I’m not saying people didn’t fart in 1956, only that they exhibited some modicum of civilization by not mentioning it on greeting cards.)

Rubber Stamp Greeting Cards
Making Greeting Cards With Rubber StampsAbby recently took up Rubber Stamping as well. I, for one, am working hard to convert her to Scrapbooking, but I must admit that her handiwork is to die for! She has made some of the COOLEST little greeting cards, and she's having a great time doing it.

Museum Greeting Cards
The museum has a marvelous giftshop, part old-fashioned variety store and part typical - albeit very well done - museum store, with the most clever, offbeat and well-designed selection of greeting cards and writing papers that I've ever encountered, and of course, that creative essential, Moleskine notebooks [related: Moleskinerie]. I was a bit taken by the version that is laid out storyboard-style; I hadn't seen that format before.

On The Origins of Mothers Day.
If you're wondering when the holiday gift tradition started for Mothers Day, here's the scoop:
In 1907, Anna Jarvis, of Philadelphia, began the campaign to have Mother's Day officially recognized, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson did that, proclaiming it a national holiday and a "public expression of our love and reverence for all mothers." Today's commercialized celebration of candy, flowers, gift certificates, and lavish meals at restaurants bears little resemblance to Howe's original idea.

21st Century Greeting Cards
At first glance they look like any other brightly emblazoned greeting cards to mark birthdays, exam successes, engagements or passing a driving test.
Look again, and there is something less familiar about their messages “To Mummy and Daddy on your wedding day,” reads one. “Happy birthday to our child-minder” declares another.

History of Valentine's Day
But don't feel like St. Valentine's Day is the only time for greeting cards!
Valentine thus become a Patron Saint, and spiritual overseer of an annual festival. The festival involved young Romans offering women they admired, and wished to court, handwritten greetings of affection on February 14. The greeting cards acquired St.Valentine's name.

Greeting Card Gimmicks
I love these greeting cards, too.
When buying greeting cards, I tend toward the high-tech gimmicks: The buzzers or snide quips that blare when the card opens, or, better yet, the pop-outs that do everything but hit you in the face with a pie.

Silver Surfers Like Greeting Cards
If they send them, they probably like receiving them. Next time you need a holiday gift for an online senior, think about an online greeting card.
Of wired seniors, 69% go online on a typical day, compared with only 56% of all Internet users. Silver surfers report using the Internet to stay in touch with family and friends, using e-mail or sending online greeting cards. Seniors report several other key reasons for using the Internet, including:

Drawing Bugs
Then we thought it would be kinda cool to see what the bugs would look like on greeting cards and t-shirts, and we opened up our first CafePress store called SnuggleBugs. We did it just for fun, but the baby onesie sure is cute! I think I'll get some for some friends of mine!

Creating Greeting Cards Online
Here's a great idea. It will allow me to upload my personal images into greeting cards I create online. How do I find out when it's available?
A picture paints a thousand words. in this context, personalized greeting cards speaks more than words in a way as what the sender has created for the recipient(s) has special meaning to it. e-greeting cards are getting more and more popular not only for long distance relationship but also a way of expressing your love or care for your loved ones like family members, friends or someone special.
hence, me and my group mate, eugenia has come up with the idea of extending the greeting cards ideas by creating a site where users not only can send pre-designed or pre-made greeting cards but they can even upload their own creative images which might have meanings for the sender and the recipient(s). therefore with the drag-and-drop utility, creating your own personalized card is made much easier and you will have fun doing it. as soon as we have get our designs together and the layout of the website, hopefully the prototype will be available soon.

Text as Art
I just love the idea of text as art. I saw this post, and thought of all the ways I like to use text as design elements in my work.
What I mean is I love looking at words in the context of design. Ever since I was a young girl I would collect things that have word designs: greeting cards (such as this "Happy" card, brochures, postcards, magazine clippings, labels. Something about the curve of a J simply appeals to me. Words provide intricate details that just draws the eye.

Great Greeting Card Site
If you need funny greeting cards, this blogger found a fun website.
This site, cathtatecards.com has some of the best cards, magnets, postcards, etc. I’ve seen. Look under the Greeting Cards category for a sub-category called Loose Knits. These are vintage pattern leaflets (not sure if they’re authentic or not) with hilarious captions added under them. Definitely a good laugh.

Making Your Own Easter Cards
Here's a link to a lot of great activities for making Easter gifts. The first is making an Easter greeting card.
I had a couple of links to post, then realised that for many children it's the Easter holiday so it's turned into a fully blown Easter fest.
First up is the Easter Bunny rap.
Make your own Easter greeting cards (like the one above) with Letter James.

Something Better Than Online Greeting Cards?
In India, SMS (or cell phone text messaging) is replacing greeting cards.
Observers speculate that young people in India are simply foregoing greeting cards in favor of SMS greetings. Plus, a recent hike in postage rates there has made SMS more attractive. It's likely that this trend will spread to other countries where SMS is catching on. In the US, where SMS is not as popular as it is elsewhere, web- and IM-based greetings could similarly cut into greeting card sales, especially among young people.

Online Greeting Cards
Most of the time, online greeting cards are a good idea. On a major, holiday, though, you might want to have a Plan B.
Hallmark Cards yesterday apologized to its clients for screwing over last-minute electronic card senders stemming from problems they experienced trying to access the greeting cards maker's Web site on Valentine's Day.
When a nation of Internet users attempted to send (males, i.e., cheap and last-minute) or receive (females, many of whom are in relationships with cheap and last-minute males) Hallmark electronic cards on Monday, they were turned away from the company's Web site, which was offline for a ...

Greeting Card Dilemma
Paper greeting cards or online greeting cards? The story below highlights the problem of knowing when paper is the right solution and when online is acceptable. Will paper always seem like the better alternative?
Our Seasons Greetings have gone out the door, thanks to Ponzi. If it weren't for her, everybody around me would have received one more "Web Card" notification. She believes that the printed Holiday Card is the only way to go. I suppose that's correct. Then again, you really can't do fun things with paper - especially when compared to Fotobay. I love playing with those googly eyes! We got a few Holiday Greeting Cards this year, although half of ...
