Eco-Pretty Jewelry
If you're looking for eco-friendly jewelry gifts, check out the Palma Collection.
I had the great fortune recently to receive two lovely eco-fashion necklaces from The Palma Collection. They are a small eco-friendly company located in San Diego, California that sells stunning and unique eco-friendly women’s accessories made from the nut of a rare palm tree in South America. The nuts (aka vegetable ivory) are harvested seasonally and only after they fall from the tree. They are also completely non-toxic. These necklaces are proof positive that green fashion can be beautiful and sexy.

Diamonds Are A Big Guy's Best Friend
If you know an NBA player, maybe a nice necklace gift is in order.
But what is really strange to me is how these big tough basketball players were all robbed of very expensive jewelry. I don’t mean to sound old-fashioned, but what are big, tough guys doing with +$100,000 custom made necklaces? I guess if you’re 6-foot-10, you can get away with wearing whatever you please, at least until someone else decides they want to take it from you. Here’s the story:

Eighties Inspiration For My Necklace
Handmade necklaces make great holiday gifts, too!
Here is my necklace for the April Challenge, finally. I took colour inspiration from this post by Ms Spinach. A nearly edible mix of silver, vintage glass beads, coral, turquoise, crystals, wood beads and silver charms. Was easy to make but took a little while.

E-Ink Bracelet
An e-ink bracelet makes a spectacular technological holiday gift.
Check out this Seiko Spectrum bracelet watch, which uses flexible E-Ink display technology that wraps all the way around its circumference. It displays a time in two modes, and pictured above is its “mystery mode,” making you guess WTF time it is, but looking pretty nonetheless.

Jewelry Galore
Nice post on a beautiful ruby jewelry gift on display at the National Museum of Natural History. Hey, they might be a good Valentine's DayOn a recent visit to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, I had the opportunity to see the Carmen Lucia Ruby, a 23.1 carat Burmese ruby. Burmese rubies of this size are extremely rare. And extremely gorgeous, I would add.

Girl With A Pearl Earring
Pearl earringsWhen I was a little girl I would wear my pearls for special occasions - a holiday meal, weekly Barclay classes, or a swimming/school banquet. The pearls made me feel grown up, lady-like, and dainty; two decades later I'm still just as in love.

Spoiled Rich Kids
Gift giving is all relative.
One of the quotes from a father basically says he’s got the money, so why not do it? I’ll tell you why. If you give your daughter a Mercedes convertible and diamond jewelry for her sweet 16, what’s left for graduation? Or marriage? That’s already answered for us. For graduating high school, the older daughter got a Bentley, diamonds, and two homes in India. Was the older daughter surprised? Yeah, she was only expecting a Bentley and one home.

Rings And Things
Recycling the family jewelry to fashion a new wedding ring.
I hadn’t planned on incorporating more diamonds into my ring, but while cleaning at my folks’ house, I rediscovered a pair of earrings given to me years ago - they were once my great grandmother’s. I never had worn them because the settings didn’t seem very sturdy and I feared losing them. The original plan, I believe, was to get new settings and/or backings for them eventually. But looking at them, I realized they were a perfect size to accent my ring. The gold for my band contains the melted down settings from the earrings and a piece of chain from a necklace of my mother’s. The diamonds actually turned out to be slightly different sizes: .08 and .09 carat, but the difference was only noticable when the jeweler put them on a black tray.

It's Happening
Good luck on the job change!
But D has been so generous with me for as long as I can remember. Tonight, I thanked him for spoiling me and for letting me spoil myself with consumer delights over the years. I know that as soon as we have comfortable cash flow again, he will loosen up the credit cards again and buy me more diamonds and let me shop up a storm.

Necklace
We can't wait for you to wear it!
3. Last night I was feeling so poorly that I didn’t notice the packages sitting outside our door and didn’t really care when Rudi came home and brought them in. Inside one was a cd from my monthly music club (always fun), but the second was from my college roomie. She sent me a belated birthday present — a handmade cat card from one craft fair and a gorgeous necklace from another. The necklace is on a peach ribbon and looks like a Christmas bon bon. I can’t wait to wear it!

Happy Ever After? Not likely!
Were the fake diamonds a tip off that all was not well?
You'll have to click through to find out.During the easter vacation of my fourth year at University, Y and I (Y was now back in his homeland of Cambridge, back with his parents and doing a part-time job whilst following his beloved Cambridge United home and ... well, mainly home because he WAS only working part-time) went on holiday to the Cotswolds and during a visit to Cheltenham he bought me the engagement ring. The sapphire was real apparently. The diamonds must have been lookalikes as`the receipt I later found when clearing out his things was only for £49.99. They say it's the thought that counts - is that still the case with an engagement ring?!

Diamond Setting
Nice story about a diamond setting.
The setting he found is BEAUTIFUL. Apparently he’d spent months looking for the right ring, found it, and the jeweler had to track it down from a tradeshow. It’s not a traditional pronged solitaire, its more modern looking and just COOL (have I ever said i like different?). Its a platinum band with 10 small diamonds inset (5 on both sides), then in the center it holds the main diamond flush with the band, but you can see the side profile completely, so from the side it looks like the diamond is just floating with no support from the sides. We’ve had a diamond for 4 years, even before our wedding, but haven’t been able to complete it. So Kynan’s been secretly working on it and I think that’s what makes the ring even more special…

Family And The Extensions Thereof
Nothing like a beautiful ring.
Oh yes. And then there was the ring. *sigh* It’s really beautiful: 1/2 carat total weight, platinum, a simple channel-set row of princess-cut (square) diamonds. Looks about like this. No solitare, no foofy hand plumage, just classy, simple, and understated. And I can’t wait to wear it forever.

Diamond Facts
Dazzle your significant other with diamonds for a holiday gift ... and with your knowledge of diamond history:
Dazzled by diamonds? The word diamond comes from a Greek word meaning “untameable,” because diamonds are so hard that only another diamond can scratch them. The first known reference to diamonds comes from India in 296 BCE, where diamonds were used as symbols of wealth and prestige. The first diamond wedding rings arose in France in the 15th century, despite an earlier declaration by King Louis IX that only the king could own diamonds. And believe it or not, despite their price tag, diamonds are not at all rare – over 100 carats worth of diamonds are mined every year for both jewelry and industrial use.

Amber Jewelry
An entire blog dedicated to Amber Jewelry. How wonderful!
Think of these when you are looking for a truely unique gift.
The overall very best thing of all about these is how these amber beads almost immediately take on the warmth of your skin, unlike glass or other gemstones such as turquoise, which will rest at room temperature. These are sea ambers- soft polished nuggets stitched into incredible compositions, they somehow seem fit for a barbarian queen. & yet at the same time they are sooooo modern & beguiling, just an absolute rebuke to unfelt corporate jewelry. & it is also curious how something so small, yet ornate, is so light- because these are substantial pieces.

Pearls for Wedding Anniversary
Pearls make a classic gift, as a wedding anniversary gift or a romantc gesture.
Cultured pearls are the ideal modern gift for your spouse's twelfth or thirtieth wedding anniversary. While selection may seem simple enough there is a wide variety of pearl types, colors, and pearl necklace lengths to choose from.
There are 4 general types of strands Freshwater, Akoya, South Sea, or Tahitian's and all come in a variety of colors and overtones. Most common are white, golden, pink, and black. White and pink are primarily Akoya pearls, golden usually being South Sea pearls, Black usually Tahitian pearls, while Freshwater pearls tend to be available in near every shade imaginable.
